Daylight Saving Time returns this weekend as we shift an hour of light from the morning to the evening. Push your clocks ahead – spring forward – before going to bed Saturday night. The official change occurs at 2 a.m. Sunday, local time. We “fall back” at 2 a.m. on the first Sunday in November and return to Standard Time.
This is also a good time to change your battery-powered smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors. The “Change your Clock, Change Your Battery” program has been in existence for 22 years. Sponsored by the International Association of Fire Chiefs and Energizer, the program promotes changing smoke detector batteries when the time changes in the spring and fall of each year.
Also check the clocks in your computers, DVD players and microwaves in case they don’t automatically adjust the time. Folks in Arizona, Hawaii, American Samoa, Guam, Puerto Rico, U.S. Virgin Islands, and a few other places, won’t lose any sleep because they don’t observe daylight time.
