Workers Protest Over Only Being Able To Drink At Lunch-Time

Hundreds of workers at the Danish brewer Carlsberg walked off their jobs Thursday after the company tightened rules on workplace drinking and removed beer coolers that were set up around the plant. The warehouse and production workers in Denmark are upset because they can no longer drink beer throughout the day. The company says workers can now only drink while on their lunch break. The company policy says you cannot “be drunk at work,” according to a company spokesman. Around 800 workers went on strike this week and another 250 walked off their jobs. Truck drivers joined the strike in sympathy – even though they are exempt from the new rules. Truck drivers can drink up to three beers because they often don’t have time to guzzle down beer at the factory. However, their trucks have alcohol ignition locks preventing the drivers from driving drunk.
