The 2010 Atlantic hurricane season starts next Tuesday. The list of storm names rotates every six years by the World Meteorological Organization. The list of names runs from A-W; Q, U, X, Y and Z are not used. That’s usually enough to last a full season, which runs June 1-November 30th. However, so many hurricanes formed in 2005 that the entire list was used. For the first time, Greek letters were applied to the rest: Alpha, Beta, Gamma, Delta, Epsilon and Zeta. It was the most active hurricane season ever, with five names permanently retired – the most names ever. The updated hurricane names:
