Back in the day it was called the “Pluto Platter.” That was the original name for what we know today as the Frisbee. The man credited with inventing it died last week of cancer. Walter Frederick Morrison was 90. Morrison got the idea for the Frisbee in 1937 after someone tossed a tin lid to him and he watched it sail through the air. He sold the concept in 1957 and it went on to become one of America’s biggest hits in back yards, beaches and college campuses. More than 200 million Frisbees have been sold around the world. Wham-O, the company that owns the rights to the Frisbee, has a tribute to Morrison on its Web site at www.wham-o.com.
